About Chitral tours

Chitral is the largest and most remote district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a mountain frontier wedged between the Hindu Kush and the Afghan border, watched over by the great pyramid of Tirich Mir, at 7,708 metres the highest peak of the range. Long isolated by the Lowari Pass, it is now reached year-round by the Lowari Tunnel, opening up a culture and landscape quite distinct from the rest of the country. The historic Chitral town, with its old fort and the Shahi Mosque beside the Chitral River, is the gateway to a region of high passes, polo grounds and the unique pagan Kalash valleys to its south. Chitral is famous for its polo, culminating in the legendary Shandur festival on the high pass shared with Gilgit, and for its hospitable, distinctively dressed Khow people. Travel here is more of an expedition than a quick getaway, rewarding those who make the journey with genuine cultural depth and dramatic Hindu Kush scenery. It is best in summer and early autumn, and is often combined with the Kalash valleys and the Shandur road.
